The Aftermath

  • Aug. 14th, 2007 at 1:57 AM
Who: Open to Everyone Involved in the recent Troll ridden escapades in the Forbidden Forest (as well as NPCs and teachers that wish to get involved)
Where: Likely waiting to be lectured by teachers and/or the hospital wing
When: Right after the Forbidden Forest incident, but after being brought back into the castle by the line of professors
Notes/Warnings: IMPORTANT! Since this covers many of the characters having conversations at each other while others are present, things may be get confusing. The easiest way to do this will likely have each thread involving those separate conversations. However, since others are around, there may be some butting in involved. PLEASE include in the subject of the comment/response the NAMES OF THE CHARACTERS INVOLVED IN THAT THREAD. Like James and Al are about to talk so the subject would be "James, Al" or something along those lines. :D Thanks!

James and Al were waiting outside the headmaster's office while Ally was being questioned and lectured. It had been a rather awkward walk back as the teachers were obviously furious that a stunt like this was being pulled so early in the morning. Some of them had to return to begin their morning classes with the students who were better behaved. Du and Rose had been taken to the hospital wing. Al, with only a few scratches, and James, with only a bruised up back, were left to wait here.

The silence was nearly deafening, but James broke it, as usual. He turned to Al with a furious look on his face, almost as though he was considering giving him a good smack. James wasn't often very serious, but Al had put himself into a lot of danger that night. Even James didn't go that far into the forest, and he especially didn't go that far in alone.

"What the bloody hell were you thinking?! You IDIOT! You didn't tell anyone! You didn't tell ME. You went off running without even knowing where you're going. At least have a LITTLE sense, Albus! Even the Yearling girl didn't know what she was getting into. You think a first year was going to help a second year out that much? What were you going to do if you couldn't find her or if you ran into those trolls by yourself? WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU COME GET ME?" He practically roared this at Al.

[Al, James]
His fists tightened with every yelling word James through at him. Al didn't need this, he knew how stupid he'd been and certainly didn't need James, Mr. Trouble Maker Extraordinaire, to lecture him on it.

"What good would it have done?" he shot back, once James had to pause for air. He whirled on his brother, green eyes so bright with anger and bitterness and something else that they seemed to shine. "It'd just give you another reason to mock me, call me a coward like the 'slimy snake' I am, right?" His own words grew louder, the more and more he fell into his anger and frustration.

Re: [Al, James]
James looked slightly surprised at his little brother's suggestion, but the look turned quickly back into a scowl. "I would have been able to make sure you didn't get hurt, you prat! You could have gotten yourself killed! KILLED, Al. What was I supposed to do if I'd gotten there and one of those trolls had bashed your head in, huh? Do you think I want that?!"

Re: [Al, James]
"Oh sure," Al responded derisively, "can't have Mum sending you another Howler, right? Wouldn't want that." He was being irrational, he knew he was, but he was just so angry, at Ally, at James, at himself.

"You went in there yourself, so you have no right to lecture me about it," the younger of the two said, in a slightly more subdued tone.

Re: [Al, James]
"It's not about the Howlers! You know I don't give a damn about the Howlers!" Pausing, James looked around as though make sure no one was nearby to hear him say what he was about to say. "Al. Don't be a git. I didn't know you were in there, but I would have been there ten times faster if I knew you were." He swiped a hand through his hair, a habit to try to get the longer strands from getting in his eyes.

"Besides, you don't have to do stupid shit like me. Mum and Dad get enough news about one son in detention. They don't need another." His eyes strayed to look at a spider crawling across the ceiling.
"And what you did, well," He glanced at Al with a small grin he couldn't quite hold back. "It was pretty damn brave of you going in after her like that. I'd say I was proud if you weren't such a bloody prat about it. I guess you're my brother after all but don't go telling anyone." Really, he couldn't be but so serious all the time. Still, James thought he should at least give Al a good smack on the head for all this.

Re: [Al, James]
His ire quickly dwindled. Al stared at his brother, breathing a little harshly still, but he knew most of his anger was gone-- at least for the night.

It was hard to stay mad at James when he was actually being sincere like that.

And Al sort of hated him even more for it.

He looked away, hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. "If--" he shut his eyes, lips pursing because he couldn't believe he was about to admit what he was about to admit in front of him, of all people, the one person he never wanted to be so weak in front of. "If you and Du hadn't come--" he couldn't finish, his voice was tiny, wavering from-- fear? Anger? ..Shame?

Re: [Al, James]
James draped his arm over Al's shoulders. It wasn't quite a hug, but the idea of a hug was there. "If we hadn't come then I expect you'd be in some troll's soup right now." He tried to smile comfortingly, but he wasn't very good at this sort of thing anyway. "But anyway, we did come. And you and Yearling might've come up with something brilliant if we hadn't. You're supposed to be cunning and all."

James didn't really want to admit it, but out of all the people running into the forest, be it for bravery or stupidity, only one was a Gryffindor. Three of them were Slytherin, so that had to count for something.

Re: [Al, James]
The younger of the two gave a little sniff, but he'd kept his head bowed low so as not to show James anything. He wanted to say more, that he wasn't so sure things would have turned out so well had James and Du not arrived like they did... He wanted to tell him everything-- that he'd frozen up, that he'd blanked out and used the wrong spells, that everything their Mum and Dad ever taught him flew out of his head to make room for his fear.

But most of all.. Al wanted to tell his brother that he was right-- he was nothing but a good for nothing snake.

Because it wasn't bravery that drove him out there to try and help Ally.. It wasn't even stupidity. It might have been concern, at first, but the second he'd cast that first spell, and he'd seen what he could do... It became more about him, even if he didn't really realize it right then. He wanted to be out there, because he wanted to be the hero, to be great.

If James and Du had not come in when they did.. his ambition could have killed him and Ally both.

Re: [Al, James]
James heard the little sniffle from Al, and he sighed uncomfortably. Crying people. Always the crying people. Not that Al was necessarily crying by any means; no, James wasn't about to suggest that. It was like when Ally cried, and he had no idea what to do. He couldn't just hug him like their Mum did when they were upset as kids. Instead James ruffled his little brother's hair and hoped for the best.

"You did good, Al. If mum won't be so pissed off that we went into the forest, she'd think it was good, I bet. Dad was always doing these sorts of things when he was here, right? Mum still fancied him. It's like a tradition."

He had no clue about Al's hidden ambitions or why he was really upset, and he thought he might start babbling just so Al wouldn't make such a sad face. James himself had done it for the sheer excitement of it all until he'd seen Al was there. Would that kind of blind idiocy be but so much better?

"I bet Yearling'll even buy us some Honeydukes chocolate to thank us. We can't give Teddy any though. He didn't even help."

Re: [Al, James]
A tiny bubble of laughter left him then, and he shook his head. "Teddy probably wouldn't accept it anyway, he'll be so mad.." He smiled, a little sadly but it was still a smile, and silently thanked his older brother for being.. well.. his older brother.

He still felt awful, and undoubtedly he'd continue to do so and maybe even get worse. But for now.. it was comforting to think he wasn't a horrible person. For now he could pretend.

Re: [Al, James]
James grinned at the laugh Al let out. It seemed like things would be okay, at least for now. "Teddy would probably try to take it. He'd say we weren't worthy of it or something. Did you know he has a poster of chocolate hanging over his bed? Bit of a weird bloke, isn't he?"

This was probably turning into the most civil conversation James could remember having with his brother in quite some time.

"We should go see how Rosie and Frenchy are doing, yeah?"

Re: [Al, James]
He smiled softly, nodding despite how horrible he still felt inside. Now was not the time to focus on himself though.. So many other, more important things were at stake.

"Yeah," he said, lifting a hand to run the back of his sleeve along his nose. "I hope they're alright.."

[Rose, James]
Meanwhile, Rose was waking up, back in the hospital wing. He eyes opened slowly and she flinched, squinting until her eyes could adjust to the light. She sat up carefully and leaned against the pillows, trying to remember what happened. The last thing she could recall was hitting her head. She thought some more, and everything came back at once.

Rose looked around to see if Du had ended up in the hospital, too. Sure enough, there he was, sleeping in the next bed. She thought next of Al, and Ally, and James. Ignoring the pain in her head when she moved, Rose called softly, "Al? James?" If they were close by, the stone walls might carry the echo of her voice to them.

Victoire Alone
Victoire stood by the stairs that went up to the entrance of Ravenclaw house, but she couldn't make it. She couldn't find Ted, so she had told the first teacher she had found, to near disastrous results. But they were out, right? Ally, James, Rose, Al, and that French boy. They were out and safe... and in so much trouble.

Victoire sat on the bottom step of the stairs and curled her fingers in her hair. She had been trying so hard but she could no longer hold it in. She started to cry. Victoire wasn't generally a crier, but those moments running back to the castle had been some of the worst. She was plagued with images of what could have come out of that forest. She should have gone in. She could have tried to help, but she didn't. She was a coward. And a really ugly crier.

Du laid in the hospital bed, only half asleep, and half listening to the voices coming from others. He could hear James and Al, and the witch nurse while she fixed his arm. Finally he decided to open his eyes and try to move, but the nurse stopped him.

"I'm fine, sit me up."

The nurse sighed loudly and helped the boy sit up in bed before speaking, "I hear you ran into that forest to save your girlfriend, huh? Well it may have been brave but it was stupid."

Du actually laughed at the woman's remarks, partially agreeing with her. "Not my girlfriend, just a girl I know."

The nurse stopped what she was doing and smirked, "Well. Your friends have all been busy getting into trouble right now so..maybe someone will visit you." With that she walked away.

"See me in a hospital bed? James will love that." When he thought of James' possible reaction to him being injured he couldn't help but to laugh, and others nearby could hear.

Rose smiled as she watched the nurse walk away from the boy's bed. "He will, don't worry." She laughed a little bit and twisted to see the boy's face. "It was brave. What you did, I mean." Rose's look turned thoughtful, and Du just stared at her. "To go in there for someone who you're just friends with?" She blushed. "I might not have gone in, if it wasn't for James. I'm not great friends with Ally, but James...James is my cousin, and maybe he's my best friend. I'm sure he would've been okay, but still." Rose looked back up at Du, who was still staring at her. "You know, I don't think I've even met you yet. I'm Rose Weasley...sorry I can't shake your hand from over here. It's nice to meet you."

[Du, Rose]
Du heard the girl's voice through his laughter and turned to see who was in the hospital with him, since he had only a few memories from after he got knocked into the tree. The fact that it was a girl in there with him made him stare, and silently yell at himself.

"Brave maybe, but not well planned..if it was, you wouldn't be in here. I saw Alexandrea and I didn't watch my back.. I need more training."

He paused for a moment and rubbed his head which was covered in a white bandage, most of his wounds were no longer painful, and he would likely be out of the hospital within a day.

"So how good is the medical care here? Will my arm be okay soon?" Du motioned to his broken arm.

Re: [Du, Rose]
"The best things aren't planned," Rose said, smiling at him. "And don't blame yourself about my injuries. I went in there by myself, it was my decision, not your's. Besides, I'm the stupid one...survive every creature that could've possibly gotten me, and I got knocked out by a tree."

Rose laughed a little at Du's question. "Oh, is it just broken? It's probably not even broken anymore, just sore. They regrew my uncle's arm bones in a night, I'm sure they can an existing, broken one in minutes."

Re: [Du, Rose]
Du blinked and looked down at his arm, then wiggled his fingers, then his elbow. "Amazing!" He then lifted it above his head and back down before turning and scooting himself off the bed to walk over to Rose.

"Pleasure to meet you Mademoiselle Rose Weasley, my name is Dureau Raedwolf, and I~"

He was cut short when the nurse yelled for him to get back into his bed, even though he was only sore. Quickly he gave the young girl a bow and got back into his bed.

Re: [Du, Rose]
Rose grinned as she watched fascination bloom over her new friend's face.

Giggling and blushing slightly, she made a curtsey motion (the best she could do while sitting in a bed) in response to Dureau's sharp bow. Her giggling turned to outright laughter when the nurse yelled and he scurried back to his bed.

"You're in Slytherin, I assume?" She thought for a second, then added, "Third year? I saw you at the try-outs, I know you're on the Quidditch team..." Rose trailed off into her own thoughts.

As the nurse turned around Du made a face at her and then turned his attention back to Rose.

"Oui all that's true. I haven't seen you much before now, I apologize. But I can never know too many ladies. I think I like witches better than muggle girls..I have yet to be slapped by a girl in Hogwarts."

Du smiled a little and rubbed the back of his neck before he leaned against the headboard of the bed.

Re: [Du, Rose]
Rose giggled again. This French boy was very charming, more so than any boy she had met before.

"I'm only a first year, and I don't...get around much. I don't have many people to run about with, only James, really."

She smiled back at him, saying lightly, "I won't ever slap you, don't worry."

He snickered a bit and slowly took off the bandage around his head, deciding he didn't need it. "Yeah most girls will say that, then when they find out you have to leave the country at the end of the summer, BAM."

Du imitated slapped a face and laughed. The nurse turned sharply and gave him the stink eye, thinking he was laughing at her, and he quickly sunk into the covers of the bed.

[ Ally, Al, James ]
Ally had finally finished with the Professors. She didn't so much get yelled at as they were concerned for why they had even went in to the forest. Ally explained to them that Kat had disappeared and why she figured she was in the forest. She did leave Nigel out of that explanation so not to get him in to trouble. But since Kat was gone, explained to her by the Headmaster and shown by a letter, she felt no need to hold the secret that wouldn't hurt Kat anyway.

The Headmaster and Professor's listened to her explanation for running head first in to danger. Of course they did not approve but they took it in to consideration. She also made sure to tell them she wanted to take ALL the blame and ALL the punishment. Because her heroic friends had only came to save her stupid self from getting herself killed. Stupid is a word she used often.

Though by her surprise the Head of Slytherin as WELL as the Head of Gryffindor actually spoke up for her. Stating that it was a noble and brave thing to do. They both got in to an argument about which house she should have been in the first place, which lead to a brief moment of silence towards her.

After all was said in done they couldn't deliver the full punishment to her alone and everyone would be given a weeks full detention. Though the Professors understood her actions they did not condone them. After they made sure to question every detail of the adventure from her they let her go.

Walking along the corridors Ally couldn't contain it anymore. She slipped down the stone wall and held her face between her gentle fingers. She let it all go at once, crying rather hard. Her little body shook with the fear she had held in all during the fight. How could she let this happen? How could this be her fault? She wasn't like this! Was this because of her changing? What was wrong with her! She could have got them all KILLED.

Her shoulders shook, her mind racked with guilt. Would they ever talk to her again? She didn't blame them if they didn't. What did she think she was? A hero? Bah. She could never be anyones hero. She wasn't even smart enough to pick her own battles.

She hadn't noticed the two figures walking down the hallway. She also hadn't noticed this was the hall toward the Hospital wing. All she noticed, was today she proved, she wasn't anything but a selfish Slytherin.

Re: [ Ally, Al, James ]
((OOC: Ally, apparently, is the luckiest student since Harry Potter.))

He hadn't noticed her at first, caught up in the tense but oddly comfortable silence between him and his brother. They were walking towards the Hospital Wing, to check on Rose and Du, when soft sounds reached his ears. He blinked down at Ally's curled up form, lost for a moment as to why she she was there, crying...

Hastily, he looked away, brow knitting deeply as he frowned. He didn't want to see her right then, let alone talk to her. He was still so angry, and so very ashamed, and speaking to her, he knew, would only lead to bad things...

"I'll-- later," was all he could mumble, and hastily turned on his heel down the other end of the hallway.
